Self-service Business Intelligence Tools: Gartner Magic Quadrant Lessons For Business Development
In fact, business intelligence analytics and solutions reveal business trends and create a unified view of the customer experience.
How To Build A Self Service Bi Strategy
However, there are many components involved in such decisions. To understand each of these, consider how Gartner defines analytics and business intelligence platforms.
Analytics and business intelligence (ABI) platforms make it much easier for CX teams to “model, analyze, explore, share, and manage data,” according to Gartner.
AI is playing an increasingly important role here, identifying data trends, aggregating them and automating the delivery of insights.
However, this only scratches the surface of the functionality of the ABI platform. The following 12 critical capabilities – as suggested by Gartner – highlight this.
Top 3 Self Service Bi Tools Of 2018: An Analogy
With superior know-how of these core ABI capabilities and a vision to drive customer success, executives offer an attractive pricing model that “supports proof of value.” At the same time, they pave the way for phased acquisitions and scaling to meet the unique needs of businesses in multiple industries. This year’s leaders are:
When it comes to user adoption, Microsoft “dominates the market.” The growth of Microsoft’s Power BI cloud service has allowed the technology pioneer to integrate its solution with other products in its deep portfolio. These include Office 365 and Teams, the latter enabling enhanced knowledge sharing. Gartner applauds its compatibility with these offerings – along with Azure Synapse – and their value proposition. The analyst also cited “product ambition” as a core strength — again citing integration with its broader portfolio — particularly Power Apps and Power Automate — as compelling drivers of innovation.
With Tableau, Salesforce remains Microsoft’s closest competitor at the forefront of the market. The vendor has built a community of developers around this to help improve decision making. Gartner refers to this approach as “Table as a skill”, highlighting this important point – in addition to the visual analytics experience built into the system, it makes it easier to get meaningful insights. Finally, researchers were surprised that Tableau remained cloud-based, data-source, and application-agnostic despite its acquisition by Salesforce, allowing for greater interoperability.
Qlik Sense Enterprise SaaS is an ABI platform that includes its Qlik Sense, AutoML and Application Automation solutions. The latter allows for deeper analysis of business processes with a visual code-free approach. This makes its analytics much more integrated than its competitors and is a distinct strength. Gartner notes this alongside Qlik’s cloud-agnostic approach and comprehensive data and analytics capabilities. Combined after multiple acquisitions and an in-house laser R&D focus, these capabilities assist multiple business entities in gathering and evaluating relevant insights.
What Is Self Service Business Intelligence (self Service Bi)?
Taking the ABI market bulls by the horns, competitors are offering specific programs that consistently deliver business value. However, it seems that some providers are following the lead with native integrations that link features in their portfolio. Instead, they may lag behind in industry-specific innovations, geographic footprints, and sales channels. This year’s competitors are:
Google has made significant strides in consolidating its BI tools over the past 12 months. It now combines the Looker platform – Looker, Data Studio (now known as Looker Studio) and the LookML semantic layer. This layer in reporting allows businesses to leverage the power of Google Sheets, Microsoft Power BI, and Tableau in sync with other Looker platform tools. Gartner also cites solution support, workflow features and further integration of its solutions on Google Cloud Platform – including Dataproc, Dataprep and Composer – as strengths. However, some avoid the platform because it is more focused on developers/data engineers.
Often the platform of choice for enterprises with a strong data warehouse foundation, Domo offers over 1,000 data and application connectors, all of which are native. To support this, the vendor introduced the Domo App Framework to connect them, integrate BI into business workflows and enable what-if analysis in a low-code environment. An example is a Domo innovation. Gartner praises the vendor for this, along with its platform’s scalability and multi-platform support. Unfortunately, the analyst suggests that its third-party ecosystem is somewhat limited.
As it did in the CCaaS Magic Quadrant, AWS praises Amazon QuickSight’s ABI platform pricing model, allowing customers to pay per use. Additionally, its mature software development kits (SDKs) and APIs enable customers to develop complex internal analytics use cases. AWS expanded their potential by increasing its investment in its serverless cloud BI service last year to enable complex applications with less burden on cloud infrastructure. But where AWS falls behind is in its support services, which include end-user training.
Cognigy Named A Leader In The 2023 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ For Enterprise Conversational Ai Platforms
MicroStrategy builds code bases organically rather than acquiring them. This strategy has given its platform stability and “less error code”. That platform is also incredibly open, with a focus on interoperability that spans multiple clouds and business application stacks. Gartner points to these two elements, along with MicroStrategy’s reputation for robust reporting and governance, which drives much of its enterprise business. However, analysts believe that the retailer is lagging behind the leaders in its growing analytics and lack of product differentiation.
Alibaba impresses with its composite analytical approach. Although the Quick BI platform is available as a stand-alone offering, it fits into Alibaba’s LYDaaS portfolio, providing modular and repeatable data and analytics (D&A) capabilities. Gartner values this approach along with Alibaba’s workplace-focused digital data literacy and analytics programs. However, the retailer is very much tied to the Asia/Pacific region, where competition is growing. The analyst also pointed to slow market momentum and investment interest as areas of concern.
With a differentiated and precise vision for future ABI platforms, visionaries can provide deep functionality in specific arenas. Unfortunately, despite their expertise in the space, they often don’t have the broad portfolio or global presence to sustain and scale ABI’s comprehensive platform. This year’s prospects are:
Within 12 months, Oracle released integration features, action frameworks, and even human-like avatars to provide analytics news. These innovations demonstrate its pioneering vision for the Oracle Analytics Cloud platform. Combine this with its ultimate cloud offering, growing capabilities, and comprehensive data management, and some may question why Oracle isn’t in the top four. However, Gartner suggests the vendor has lost momentum because its benefits are less clear as users invest less in its broader ecosystem of apps.
Enterprise Bi Vs. Self Service Analytics Tools
According to Gartner, clients often cite a simplified user experience, the ability to perform complex analysis, and the scalability to process large data sets as reasons to work with ThoughtSpot. Thanks in part to these strengths, ThoughtSpot has achieved “wide recognition as a growing analytics platform” – according to a market analyst. Such recognition is a significant advantage for the provider along with the product offering strategy. However, Gartner notes its narrow functional differences and lack of a complete D&A solution as concerns.
Gartner reveals that SAP has “significantly increased its market momentum” over the past 12 months. Its user experience optimization initiatives, which aim to improve reporting, data storytelling and developer support, have played a role here. However, the analyst also believes that effective data integration and connectivity within the SAP portfolio, increased analytics and analytical acceleration for SAP business applications could contribute to this growth. Unfortunately, subsequent market penetration can be difficult, with limited adoption among customers outside of SAP.
TIBCO Spotfire recently enjoyed the addition of a new “actions” tool. The provider designed this to allow codeless BI functionality in workflows in cloud and legacy applications. Such functionality helps to overcome the steep learning curve often associated with the platform. Gartner still identifies this as a key warning for potential buyers. However, the analyst also highlighted many aspects. These include its support for data scientists and citizen data scientists, pre-built domain applications, as well as deployment flexibility and automation.
With new spreadsheet functionality, business modeling capabilities, and a decision modeling plugin, 2022 has been a big year for Pyramid Analytics. It stores all of this in its code-free browser environment, allowing the provider to provide accessibility for non-technical users. Gartner points out that this is one of the key strengths of Pyramid Analytics, in addition to its growing foundational analytics and community building initiatives. However, the retailer lags behind in market presence, catalog synchronization and “user enrichment” features.
Smart Data Discovery
The Sisense BI platform has three pillars: Fusion Analytics, Fusion Embed and Infusion Apps. Innovations are coming thick and fast in each, even with third-party services like Alexa and NLG. Moreover, it was very quick to hit the ChatGPT bands. Gartner praises this speed, which has allowed Sisense to quickly develop a “strong embedded offering.” The analyst also sheds a positive light on DevOps-first principles. Although its metric store integration, limited ecosystem of apps and community has drawn criticism.
IBM Cognos Analytics with Watson has multiple deployment options in private, hybrid, and public clouds, along with multi-cloud and on-premises implementations. Thus, IBM can differentiate itself through flexible deployment options. In addition, its platform is comprehensive,
