Business Intelligence Tasks Microsoft – This article describes how to automatically generate a Power BI report to analyze Microsoft Teams activity using the Power BI app in Teams.
Only you can see this report about your team’s activity unless you choose to share it. Microsoft Teams provides a summary report to Teams administrators. It gives administrators an overview of the usage activity in groups, including active users and channels, guests and messages in each group.

The My Activity page shows a summary of your recent activity in the group. The default period is the past 31 days, but you can change it to show 7, 14, or 90 days instead.
For definitions of fields in the User Activity Report, see the Microsoft Teams User Activity Report article.
The Group Activity page lists all groups you are a member of, and activity within each, such as posts and replies, active users, and guests.
On the Group Activity Details page, select one of the groups you are a member of and practice viewing its activities over the past 90 days. The page has a smart narrative view. Automatically generates an activity summary, a text description that draws attention to a popular activity.
Microsoft Planner: How To Use The Top Features
After you create your team’s activity analysis for the first time, you can return to it. In the Power BI app, it is listed in Groups or on the Home tab in the Power BI service.
You’ll see the most current data in a group. It’s not a real-time feed. It shows a snapshot of data that is typically one or two days old.
It takes one to two days for your recent activity in Microsoft Teams to show up in the Teams report. A report created in Power BI is automatically generated to refresh your activity data from groups to pull a snapshot of this data once a day. This series focuses primarily on Power BI workloads in Microsoft Fabric. For an introduction to the series, see the Power BI implementation plan.
It is to enable an individual to gain analytical value. It’s also about allowing businesses to run businesses more efficiently through data, information and analytics. Personal BI is sometimes considered an entry point

In personal BI scenarios, the content creator has more freedom and flexibility to create content for individual use. Simplicity and speed are usually priorities. There is no sharing or collaboration in this use case—these topics are covered in the Team BI, Departmental BI, and Enterprise BI scenario articles.
Mutually constructive situations. The Personal BI scenario is the first of the four scenarios. A list of all scenarios can be found in the Power BI use case overview article.
The following diagram shows a high-level overview of the most common user actions and Power BI components that support Personal BI. The focus is on individual personal analysis.
Power BI Desktop connects to data from one or more data sources. Queries and data manipulations that combine multiple sources are developed in the Power Query Editor.
Microsoft Fabric What, Why, Who, When, How
Data model development and report creation is done in Power BI Desktop. In a personal BI solution, the primary purpose is typically to search and analyze data.
The content is published on the personal workplace of the content creator as its primary purpose is for personal use. Some of the benefits of using the Power BI service (rather than just staying in Power BI Desktop) include scheduled data refreshes, dashboard alerts, and the ability to consume content using a mobile app.
The content creator views and interacts with the published content. One option is to log into the Power BI service using a web browser.
A scheduled data refresh can be set up in the Power BI service to keep the imported data up to date.
Business Intelligence Dashboard Software
To connect to data sources residing in a private organizational network, an on-premises data entry is required for data refresh.
Power BI administrators monitor and control activity within the Power BI service. Personal workspaces are usually managed much less than workspaces intended for collaboration and distribution.
Power BI Desktop is an authoring tool for developing queries, models, and Power BI reports. Different tools can be used to create Excel reports and Power BI page reports (not shown in the scenario diagram).
Successful Business Intelligence Examples
Limit the use of personal workspaces and ensure that no mission-critical content is stored in them. Although a Power BI administrator can access and manage a user’s personal workspace, storing critical content on personal workspaces represents a risk to the organization.
For personal use, which by definition means no sharing or collaboration with others, only certain capabilities of the Power BI service are available to a user with a Power BI free license. When using a free license, most activities for publishing and publishing content to the Power BI service are limited to their personal workspace.
The Enterprise BI scenario describes how Power BI free license users can view content hosted in premium capacity.
Typically, a data gateway is required when accessing data sources that reside within a private corporate network or virtual network. After the Power BI Desktop file is published to the Power BI service, the on-premises information flow becomes useful. The two purposes of the gateway are to refresh imported data or to query a report or DirectQuery semantic model—formerly known as a dataset (not shown in the scenario diagram).

Most often it is installed on the individual user’s machine. Therefore, a data gateway in private mode is best suited for private BI use cases. Your organization can restrict individuals from installing data gateways, in which case the content creator can use the data gateway in normal mode (typically configured and managed by IT).
Data protection policies may apply to content within the Power BI service. Some organizations have a mandatory labeling policy that requires sensitive labeling to be assigned even in private workplaces.
The activity log records user activities within the Power BI service and extends to personal workspaces. Power BI administrators can use the collected activity logs for auditing to help them understand usage patterns and identify risky activities. Auditing and governance requirements are less stringent for private BI scenarios.
