If you’re still manually managing and analyzing your data… stop. Robots are now smart enough for you, and you have better things to do with your time, like using AI-generated insights from your data to make big, bottom-line decisions.

Business Intelligence Software For Small Businesses

Business intelligence (BI) software uses APIs, automation, artificial intelligence, and other tools to simplify the process of data collection, organization, analysis, and visualization. It takes data and does everything for you except make the actual decisions.

What Is Business Intelligence?

There are hundreds of platforms out there that tout themselves as BI or BI-enabled tools, but not all of them help you generate actionable insights from your data while making it easy for businesses large and small. I spent several weeks testing dozens of BI tools, and based on my research and time spent testing the platforms, these eight stood out among the rest.

All of our best applications are written by people who have spent their entire careers using, testing, and writing software. We spend dozens of hours researching and testing applications, using each application as it was intended to be used, and evaluating it against the criteria we set. We don’t pay to link to our articles from any app or any website – we value the level of trust our readers place in us and the trust they place in the categories and apps we review. For more details on our process, read the full How We Choose Features blog.

To test these business intelligence tools, I created an account with each platform, imported sample data, and tested key features such as connecting data sources, data connectivity, visualizations and dashboards, and AI-generated insights.

With the help of the above criteria, some extensive research on these applications and my insights into testing them, here are eight of the best business intelligence software solutions.

Customer Relationship Management Software That Cares And Saves Time For Startups And Small Businesses

Datapine’s reviews were enough to make me doubt it’s place on this list, and testing it confirmed my hunch.

I was particularly impressed with the platform’s Smart Insights tab. You’ll be greeted with a series of written views of your data, along with explanatory diagrams that speak to these insights. They are divided into categories, growth and forecasting tabs, value drivers, key segments, externalities, correlations, and even interactive scenarios, so you can see how the results will be affected if certain factors change.

I also found the app’s dashboard to be flexible (and almost as fun?). You can drag and drop charts anywhere on the dashboard and they are highly customizable. Customize fonts, colors, grids, drop shadows, headers and footers, and even label your dashboard with hundreds of fun icons. Some views, including maps, are interactive, allowing you to zoom in on specific areas and get a closer look at your data.

When creating a new data visualization, you can implement various conditional formatting options. For example, you can assign values to colors, reactive light, and other objects so they reflect a quality, such as a value or a fixed limit.

The app also integrates AI and smart predictions. You can enable alerts that recognize anomalies in your data and let you know how you’re looking at your KPIs to notify you of any changes. You can even customize charts to predict how your data will trend over time.

There are even more cool features, including sharing dashboards with colleagues, automating reports to be sent on a specific schedule, and more, but you get the picture. Database is a high-quality BI app that covers all your bases.

Indeed, as a fairly comprehensive high-cost option, Databases really comes at a premium compared to many other BI software options. Make sure you need all its features before dropping cash.

If you’re a solopreneur looking for a free BI tool to help you manage and analyze your data, Zoho Analytics has you covered. With its private plan, you can download the platform for free to your local server and access some powerful features that many BI tools charge for – conversational AI, unlimited reporting, forecasting, and more.

How To Select The Best Erp Software For Your Small Medium Business In 2024

Not everyone can be (or want to be) an expert in BI. For new hires in the crowd, Zoho Analytics is also one of the easiest options. It offers simple walkthroughs and demonstration videos to help you get up and running, and the interface is very simple with no steep learning curve.

I’ve used Zoho’s AI assistant in other apps through its suite of tools, but it was still the part of the app that impressed me the most. Zia was able to not only create formulas that manipulated my data how I needed it, but also pre-analyze it based on natural language. I asked him what my income would be at some point, and he broke down his projections in writing and graphically.

Zoho products have a somewhat outdated intuitive interface, but for BI software, that’s no big deal. Most platforms in this category haven’t nailed the sleek, modern interface of the mid-2020s, so Zoho fits the bill.

While it integrates seamlessly with other Zoho apps, if you can’t find the integration you need in the Zoho suite, Zoho Analytics is integrated and opens the door to tons of automation. Funnel links directly to Zoho from your ad tool, or connect it to your favorite spreadsheet app so your new data is automatically imported.

How Businesses Are Using Artificial Intelligence In 2024

Domo shines around as a great BI tool, and it’s hard to decide which superlative it deserves. Overall, I’ve found it to be an incredibly solid choice for all your data management needs.

For one, it supports more data connectors than any other platform I’ve tested, more than 440. With its own app store, you’ll be sure to find the APIs you need to get the job done.

Once you connect your data to the platform, managing it is just as easy. Its magical ETL tool features a drag-and-drop interface that lets you prepare your data for analysis, build relationships in your data, and automate data filtering without any SQL knowledge. You can also do calculations with your data thanks to the app’s Beast Mode feature.

In addition to this clever data management and control feature, I was surprised at how quickly the app loaded. Whether I was opening a sample dataset to view raw data or creating a new dashboard with custom insights, it took a few seconds to load.

Empowering Small Businesses: Harnessing The Power Of Tqm And Business Analytics For Sustainable Growth

After ten years of using Microsoft Word and Excel, Microsoft Power BI feels very familiar. The interface is similar to other Microsoft products, with similar icons, menu layouts, and everything in between. I found this very useful when using the app, as BI software usually has vertical curves.

This app isn’t just a good setup for those with experience with Microsoft’s suite of tools. Integrations with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Commands are all just a tap or two away in the top menu bar. This allows you to import data from Excel spreadsheets into Power BI and export data visualizations from Power BI to PowerPoint.

In addition, the app integrates with Power Automate, Microsoft’s hundreds of software connectivity and automation platforms (including all Microsoft apps). Like many other Microsoft apps, the platform offers desktop and web-based versions.

Aside from all of Microsoft’s integration wins, I found the app to be pretty straightforward. Without manual data modeling or link mapping, the platform automatically recognized that my two databases were connected. Once this connection was established, changes to one automatically affected the other.

Why Small Businesses In Australia Should Use Risk Management Software

I also appreciated the app’s query editor, which records all historical changes in the data. If
